Cheryl Cooper - Board Chair

Mrs. Cooper was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in California for most of her life. She grew up in Richmond, California and received all of her elementary and secondary education through the Richmond Unified School District. Mrs. Cooper received a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Biology and Physiology with a minor in Health Education from California State University at San Francisco.
Kaiser Permanente has been Mrs. Cooper's primary employer for over twenty-five years. Her initial interest in healthcare was to become a pharmacist. She held a variety of positions in Kaiser Pharmacy Operations that began as a pharmacy clerk at Kaiser Richmond and culminated sixteen years later as a Production Control Supervisor in the Livermore Pharmacy Repackaging Department. The later part of Mrs. Cooper's career with Kaiser has been in the Department of Psychiatry as an Administrative Services Manager in the Diablo Service Area.
Mrs. Cooper values education and truly believes it is the passport to success. She has volunteered in various capacities to help young people. Her interest in education has been refined over the years through her involvement in church ministry that helped her to identify and nurture the gift of teaching. She has continued to develop skills in program and workshop design, teaching methods, curriculum and lesson planning, facilitation, and leadership development.
Mrs. Cooper has served in various roles in the community and with her employer. These roles have enabled her to mentor youth as it relates to education, employment and personal enrichment.

Mrs. Cooper has continued to develop her knowledge and skills in Leadership Development, Project Management and Education. She is currently working on a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Urban Studies at Holy Names University. One of Mrs. Cooper's future goals is to bridge her education and healthcare experience to inspire young people to learn and appreciate the essence of Science and the importance of healthy living.
