School Culture

“Culture and Climate” is defined as the extent to which the learning environment is safe, promotes a sense of belonging, and fosters positive relationships among students, school staff, and between the school and home/community.  At R.A.A.M.P. Charter Academy we understand that this is paramount to student success, and we will work to foster positive relationships with all of our stakeholders.  We plan to maintain these positive relationships through community outreach, constant communication, and most importantly, by creating a context of “culturally relevant” values, beliefs, and rituals.  Culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy is one of the main factors that will help to foster positive teacher-student relationships. We understand that it is extremely important for educators to be “highly qualified” and to have a firm knowledge of their content area.  However, we also know that the relationship that educators have with their students is equally important.  It is often the case that “at-risk” students feel alienated from the norms and behaviors of the school culture, or put off by educational practices that may frequently not reflect their culture, attitude, and or perspectives.  At R.A.A.M.P. Charter Academy we seek to change this perception by creating a climate that is responsive to diverse students’ social and academic needs.
